Science Center of Iowa Begins Search for New President/CEO
Current President/CEO Dr. Paul Jennings to Return to His Native Great Britain
For Immediate Release — Friday, May 27, 2011
DES MOINES – May 27, 2011 – The Science Center of Iowa Board of Directors is initiating a search for a new president/CEO. Citing family reasons, Dr. Paul Jennings, the current president/CEO, plans to return to his native Great Britain. His last day at the Science Center of Iowa will be August 15, 2011.
"We appreciate Dr. Jennings’ many contributions during his two-year tenure at the Science Center of Iowa. During his time here, he has helped us become stronger financially and has strengthened community relationships. He also has secured several powerful exhibitions, including our current offering, the blockbuster BODY WORLDS Vital,” says Science Center of Iowa Board Chairman David Mackaman. “We wish him well, and in this time of transition we will stay focused on our mission to provide science learning for all Iowans.”
Dr. Jennings also was instrumental in bringing the traveling exhibits RACE: Are We So Different and Da Vinci – The Genius to the Science Center of Iowa. Both were extremely successful, inspiring thought and discussion within the community.
The Science Center of Iowa Board of Directors is working with a national search firm to assist with finding a new president/CEO. The board will seek candidates with science museum experience who demonstrate a passion for leadership and inspiring scientific exploration through education, exhibits and programs.
“This was a difficult decision, but one I thought best for my family,” says Dr. Jennings. “I’ve had the pleasure of working with a dedicated staff, board and many community partners who made my time in Iowa extremely rewarding. I look forward to following the future successes of the Science Center of Iowa, as I have no doubt the organization will continue to flourish in the years to come.”
“Staff members will work closely with Dr. Jennings in the next several months to ensure a smooth transition,” says Mackaman. “So many exciting things are happening at the Science Center of Iowa, from BODY WORLDS Vital and summer camps to adult programs like Café Scientifique and ourannual fundraising event. We’re a dynamic organization with an outstanding staff that works very hard to bring great new experiences to Iowans.”
