| Scope: |
Summer Camp Counselors are responsible for providing a fun, safe and educationally effective learning environment in a science day camp setting. They will develop weekly camp curriculum with exciting, hands-on activities around such topics as Amusement Parks, Robots, Chemistry, and Animals. Counselors are also responsible for providing ongoing, daily supervision and mentoring of up to 20 campers ranging from 4-14 years old. They will also mentor a 16-18 year old Junior Counselor. |
| Responsibilities: |
- Develop and implement activity-based curriculum to facilitate skills-based learning on a variety of science themes and concepts - Present, teach and facilitate hands-on activities in a classroom setting with up to 20 children per camp, 4-14 years old. - Develop and implement behavior management and time management skills in the classroom - Coordinate and facilitate field trips, guest speakers and programming - Ability to obtain a chauffer license - Create supply list, daily schedule and a parent letter for each camp you teach

| Requirements: |
- High School Diploma - College course work in Education or Science related fields - General knowledge of or interest in science and education - Previous experience working with youth and parents
Skills:
- Enthusiastic, energetic, hard worker, flexible, creative and timely - Comfortable with public speaking to children, parents, mentors and supervisors - Posses excellent communication skills and looking for a challenge - Able to problem solve and troubleshoot - Organized self-starter; ability to work with little supervision

The employment period for a Science Center of Iowa 2010 Summer Camp Counselor includes two weeks of orientation and ten weeks of camp from 8:15 am – 4:30 pm, June 1 - August 20. You will be responsible to build your camp curriculum outside of the work hours listed. |
