Job Title: Summer Camp Assistant
Classification: Summer Internships

Reports To: Director of the Iowa Learning Center

Scope: Summer Camp Assistants are responsible for the daily activities of SCI camps and for providing a fun, safe, and educationally effective science day camp setting. They are responsible for development and supervision of the Counselor team and act as liaisons between Counselors and the SCI staff, as well as Counselors and parents. Assistants must oversee extended care and help adhere to the camp budget.
Responsibilities: - Oversee development and implementation of activity-based curriculum
- Train Counselors on behavior management skills that will be effective in the classroom
- Help with Counselor evaluations
- Coordinate field trips, guest speakers and programs
- Manage supply budget, buy all camp supplies, organize & distribute the supplies daily
- Manage office work, create templates, make copies, make schedules, collect and review Counselors' paperwork
- Responsible for inventory
- Responsible for extended child care before and after camp
- Ability to obtain a chauffer license
- Observe and provide feedback weekly to Counselors on classroom management and educational effectiveness of camp curriculum
Requirements:

- High School Diploma
- College course work in Education, Science, Business, Communication and related fields
- General knowledge of or interest in science and education
- Previous experience working with youth
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience necessary
- Lift up to 50 lbs.

 

Skills:

- Enthusiastic, energetic, hard working, dedicated, able to problem solve and troubleshoot
- Comfortable with public speaking with children, peers, mentors, parents and supervisors
- Posses excellent communication skills
- Organized self-starter; ability to work with little supervision, leadership skills, professional, mature and timely

Working Hours:

Full-Time Seasonal from May 26-August 20, 2010.

Hours vary, including some evenings.
