Become a Science Center of Iowa volunteer!

Enjoy a rewarding experience when you become part of the Science Center of Iowa’s volunteer team! Science Center volunteers become members of an elite team dedicated to helping the community to understand the past, present and future scientific and technological developments in a very playful and hands-on environment.

SCI has a terrific volunteer program which includes many great incentives. There are also unlimited chances for skill enhancement and personal satisfaction as well as social opportunities. There are a variety of opportunities for all skill levels and interests from on the floor to behind the scenes.

Below are just a few of the great volunteer opportunities available at the Science Center of Iowa in the next couple of months.

Preschool Program
The SCI pre-school program needs help with various administrative duties including admitting parents and children into the building in the mornings, entering information about prospective students into the computer, and other organizational tasks. Dates and times are extremely flexible.

Overnight Adventure Volunteer
Get involved in one of SCI’s greatest adventures! During an overnight adventure, groups of all ages spend the night among the exhibits participating in fun, hands-on activities facilitated by volunteers.

Overnight Adventures start at 6:45pm on Friday and end at 8:45am on Saturday and are currently scheduled every Friday from now until mid-March. You can choose to volunteer for an entire overnight session or for part of the session. If you’re a night owl, help for a few hours in the evening, if you’re an early riser, bring your energy and join the group in the morning. We would love whatever help you can provide!

Community Relations Representative

This role is responsible for welcoming participants to the Science Center and ensuring that their visit gets off to a great start. Offering directions, distributing the daily schedules and answering questions are just a few of the key tasks.

IMAX® Usher
Be an integral part of SCI’s Blank IMAX® Dome Theater as an SCI Usher. Provide a positive experience for film audiences by assisting participants in entering and exiting the theater and lending a helping hand with any needs that might arise during the film.

Retail Specialist
Become a part of the team at SCI’s A-ha! Store. Retail Specialists in the A-ha! Store will be responsible for setting up displays, restocking merchandise, entering new merchandise into the database, pricing merchandise and assisting patrons.

Membership Volunteer
Support and promote the Science Center’s membership program as a Membership Consultant. This position creates awareness for this exciting program by providing general information and answering questions related to memberships.
