Brick Built: Engineering SCI

What would you build with 75,000 LEGO bricks? See a scale model of SCI made exclusively from LEGO bricks!

Brick Built: SCI was born from the minds of Chris Hettinger and Scott Bowman, aspiring LEGO Artists and lifelong LEGO enthusiasts. For Hettinger, a software engineer, and Bowman, a mechanical engineer, LEGO was the perfect outlet for their imaginations and has been a powerful influence in their personal development.

Design. In February 2012, Hettinger digitally designed the architectural model of SCI. Then, he and Bowman approached SCI staff with the idea of hosting a public exhibition and live construction.

Build. On March 16-17, 2013, the Brick Built: Engineering SCI public build event took place at SCI. Visitors were invited to watch the builders and help by assembling some wall sections to be used in the model. The first 100 families each day received a free custom SCI LEGO micro-kit to build at home. Nearly 4,000 people engaged in the event over the weekend.

Exhibit. After a trip to Brickworld Chicago, where it was nominated in the Best Mega Creation category (photos), the model will now remain on public display at SCI.
