The Science Center of Iowa & Blank IMAX Dome Theater strives to be the highest-quality resource inspiring scientific exploration through interactive programs, exhibits and films, both through onsite education and through outreach across the state of Iowa and beyond.  At SCI, participants can build critical-thinking and life skills through discovery, interaction and fun!  Experiences are dynamic and focused less on what to learn and more on how to learn.

Celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2010, SCI was one of the first modern science centers built in the United States.  After relocating to the heart of Downtown Des Moines in 2005, SCI became a leader in the science center industry internationally, built with a unique changeable infrastructure designed to renew and refresh exhibit experiences for participants over time.  Since relocating to the downtown facility, SCI has served more than two million participants with hands-on exhibits, live programs, engaging films, outreach programming, traveling exhibitions, camps, classes and other fun and educational experiences.

By offering these exceptional opportunities for children, adults, school groups and families to strengthen their skills and abilities, SCI enhances the quality of life in our community and helps poise Iowans for success in our expanding global environment.
