  • Robotics Day at SCI
  • 1:00 PMFounders Hall
  • Join us for Robotics Day at SCI and meet teams from FIRST® LEGO® League, FIRST® Tech Challenge, FIRST® Robotics Competition, Real World Design Challenge and Iowa State University College of Engineering! See special robotics demonstrations and learn more about FIRST® teams, Real World Design Challenge, the ISU College of Engineering and robotics.

We will also showcase our life-size replica of the Mars Rovers Spirit and Opportunity! Activities are open to the public and free with SCI admission.

    About FIRST® Robotics Programs:

FIRST® LEGO® League (Grades 4-8) - In FLL, children are immersed in real-world science and technology challenges. Teams design their own solution to a current scientific question or problem and build autonomous LEGO robots that perform a series of missions. SCI will host an FLL Regional Qualifier on December 1, 2012.

FIRST® Tech Challenge (Grades 9-12) - FTC is designed for high-schoolers who want to compete head to head using a sports model. Teams of up to 10 students are responsible for designing, building, and programming their robots to compete on a 12 X 12’ field in an Alliance format against other teams.

FIRST® Robotics Competition (Grades 9-12) - Dubbed a varsity Sport for the Mind,™ FRC combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. Under strict rules, limited resources, and time limits, teams of 25 students or more are challenged to raise funds, design a team “brand,” hone teamwork skills, and build and program a robot to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors.

About Real World Design Challenge (RWDC):

Real World Design Challenge (Grades 9-12) - An annual competition that provides high school students the opportunity to work on real world engineering challenges in a team environment.
