  • Special Cafe Scientifique with Peggy Whitson
  • 6:00 PMPrincipal Hall
  • Join us on Thursday, October 11 for a special Cafe Sci presentation featuring pioneering NASA astronaut (and Iowa native), Dr. Peggy Whitson!

Dr. Peggy Whitson was born and raised near Mt. Ayr, Iowa. She completed two six-month tours of duty aboard the International Space Station and was the first female commander of the orbiting science laboratory. She has accumulated 377 days in space, the most for any woman. Whitson also has performed a total of six career spacewalks, and her total of 39 hours and 46 minutes of EVA (Extravehicular Activity) is more than any other woman.

A longtime advocate for SCI, Whitson showed her support by flying the SCI flag during her Expedition 16 mission to the International Space Station in 2007.

Be a part of the worldwide movement! Café Sci features cutting edge, adult-oriented science forums with leaders in science and technology. Grab a drink and join in the discussion.

Presentation is free for all ages. No prior subject knowledge is necessary to attend Café Sci - just an interest in the topic at hand!

    RSVP strongly encouraged at cafesci@sciowa.org.
