Science Center of Iowa Event Calendar

Tuesday January 9, 2018

  • Café Scientifique: Ready for Launch
  • 5:30 PMStar Theater
  • Getting to space is hard – and staying there is even harder. From low Earth orbit to deep space, the future of space exploration is both exciting and extraordinarily challenging.

Join Dr. Stephen Granade, a physicist and director of the Science Track at Dragon Con, via Skype as he discusses what it takes for rockets to reach orbit and stay there. He’ll also offer insight on Space Launch System (SLS), NASA’s next launch vehicle designed for a new era of human space exploration beyond Earth’s orbit to an asteroid and eventually to Mars.

Join us after the presentation as we kick off our Star Party season in our demonstration garden!
