About the Exhibition
Facing Mars is an interactive exhibition that examines the physical, psychological, technological and ethical challenges involved in preparing for a voyage to the Red Planet. Can you handle the pressure? What does space do to your face? Can you do the “Marswalk?” Visitors will encounter these questions and more as you test you limits with more than 20 hands-on stations.
Exhibit Highlights
Divided into three content areas, visitors will begin and end their Facing Mars experience by answering the question: Would you go to Mars? You will discover the challenges astronauts face on space expeditions and test your own limits to discover if you would survive the journey.
- Mars Outpost will provide visitors the opportunity to feel what it’s like to walk on Mars. Get a close-up view of a real Mars meteorite and find out what it would be like to be in a Martian dust storm.
- Minds In Space will challenge visitors to choose a crew for their journey, explore the long-distance communication challenges between Mission Control and Mars and see how emotionally contagious you are.
- Bodies In Space will test visitors’ skills performing space surgery, determine how being dizzy affects your ability to do simple tasks and how well you work when there is little air.
