"The Big Questions" Landscape
The Science Center of Iowa strives to inspire curiosity and encourages questioning in visitors of all ages. To represent this part of SCI's mission, artists Mags Harries and Lajos Heder of Cambridge, MA sculpted a giant question mark made of a grass-covered berm and sandblasted scientific imagery and questions into the surface of the surrounding concrete plaza.
Entitled “The Big Questions,” the giant punctuation mark forms a grassy area about 80-feet across and serves as a picturesque and serene gathering space. Walk the plaza surrounding the mark to contemplate questions in the concrete such as:
If you were tiny, could an atom be your universe?
Are we alone in the universe?
