Family STEM Institute

Lead your family in STEM learning!

The Science Center of Iowa’s Family STEM Institute helps parents lead their families in educational learning by incorporating science, technology, engineering and math into their daily lives.

Led by early childhood experts from the SCI Preschool, the classes are designed for parents with children ages 0-8, with some activities taking place together and some breakout activities for children and parents.

Upcoming Classes:

  • STEM through Storytelling - Thursday, December 14, 5:30-7:30 pm
Learn how to spot STEM in the stories you already know – from common fairytales to classic kids’ books! Use guiding questions and materials in your home to create challenges that spark your child’s imagination.

  • STEM in the Kitchen - Thursday, April 19, 5:30-7:30 pm
Turn your kitchen into a little laboratory! Use inquiry and investigation techniques to engage your child’s curiosity – from exploring the way appliances work to experimenting with recipes.

Registration: Registration for one adult and one child is $25 ($15 for SCI Members). Additional children or adults are $10 each. Children under 3 are free, and childcare is available.
