  • During SCI's Regular Hours (Labor Day through Memorial Day), the Science Center of Iowa & Blank IMAX Dome Theater is closed on Mondays. This change reflects an effort to better provide the community with enhanced science programming, special events and facility features.

    There will be special occasions where SCI will be open on Mondays due to special holidays. Up-to-date information will be posted online and distributed via social media and e-newsletters.

Girls and families of all ages are invited to SCI's Girls in Science Festival to explore a variety of careers in the "STEM Zones" and connect with female role models and mentors. Attendees also will be able to register for workshops conducted by scientists. Engineering workshops presented by Flint Hills Resources. Festival is included with SCI general admission.

      We have all heard the story of the Three Little Pigs, but now it’s time to live it! Join us on an engineering adventure, and see if your constructions can stand up to the wolf’s huffing and puffing! This workshop is sponsored by Flint Hills Resources.

    • EngiNerding Out (Grades 4-6)
      Discover the Engineering Design Cycle by working through all the steps as we take you through a series of challenges that forces students to think critically to solve problems together. This workshop is sponsored by Flint Hills Resources.
    • Water Rocks (Grades 4-6)
      Explore the wonderful world of wetlands and the importance of these vibrant ecosystems and the biodiversity they support! Travel to a wetland through audio and visual technology, and participate in interactive activities like Habitat Hopscotch and Wetlands BINGO.

    • Light-Up Letters (Grades 4-6)
      Transform cards and paper crafts into amazing, light-up creations with simple circuitry! Use LED lights and copper tape to create a card that will brighten any mailbox.
    • Water Rocks (Grades 4-6)
