  • Yoga Under the Stars is a four-week yoga series offered monthly in the Science Center of Iowa's Star Theater planetarium. Classes are held on Mondays from 5:30-6:30 pm. Pre-registration is REQUIRED.

    Single class cost: $10 ($8 for SCI Members)
    Monthly series cost: $35 ($30 for SCI Members)

  • Discover the wonders of science in monthly classes designed specifically for young explorers.

    Pint Size Science classes are offered for two age groups of younger explorers! 

    • Pint Size Science (ages 4-6)
      Led by an SCI Programs Team member, this interactive classroom experience offered September through May allows young explorers ages 4 to 6 to discover the world around them through fun, hands-on activities they can share with a parent or caregiver. Classes are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 11:00 am. On Saturdays, a members-only class is offered at 9:00 am.
    • Toddler Edition (ages 22 months - 3 years)
      Toddler Edition classes use hands-on, sensory activities to engage young explorers ages 22 months - 3 years in science topics. Classes are taught by accredited teachers from the SCI Preschool and are held on Wednesdays at 9:00 am.


    Pre-registration is required by the Friday prior to each session. $10 SCI Members / $19 Non-members.

Girls and families of all ages are invited to SCI's Girls in Science Festival to explore a variety of careers in the "STEM Zones" and connect with female role models and mentors. Attendees also will be able to register for workshops conducted by scientists.

      Work alongside USDA scientists on a DNA extraction and take a look at the building blocks of life. Build your lab skills by measuring and observing, and learn about the biological processes that make it work!
    • Science Says: Let's Code (Grades 1-3)
      How do computers know what to do? Try out some Simon Says-like codes as we explore how people can communicate with robots and other technology.

    1:00-1:45 pm

    • Makey Make This! (Grades 4-6)
      Use the makey makeys to invent your own game or program! Do a quick dive into conductors, insulators and basic code. Connect these elements to awesome careers you may have never even heard of!

    • All About the Genes (Grades 1-3)
      Work alongside USDA scientists on a DNA extraction and take a look at the building blocks of life. Build your lab skills by measuring and observing, and learn about the biological processes that make it work!

    2:00-2:45 pm

    • Get Energized: Biofuel Edition (Grades 4-6)
      What is a biofuel and how is it made? Try some hands-on experiments alongside some wonderful chemical engineer mentors from Flint Hills Resources and learn all about this source of energy.

    • Density Column Experiment (Grades 1-3)
      Work alongside Kemin scientists and run a hands-on experiment to explore the property of density. During this workshop we will use various household liquids and solids to create a colorful column. So be ready to engage, think, and create like scientists!    

    • Makey Make This! (Grades 4-6)
