Pint Size Science

Spark curiosity and wonder through play!

Pint Size Science (PSS) classes provide stepping stones for early learners to explore science topics and help parents/caregivers feel more confident being a STEM coach for their child.

Workshops are held for children, ages 3–5 years old with a caring adult, from 9:15–10:15 AM on Thursday's in February.

Pint Size Science February Workshops

I Can Feel My Heart Beating! During February we see hearts everywhere– but did you know that the heart inside your chest isn’t just for love? It’s also a very important muscle! In this hands-on STEM session, our pint sized scientists will learn all about how our hearts help our bodies thrive.

STEM Learning Goals: Participants will have a greater understanding of the heart and its functions.

February 1

I Scraped My Knee! Have you ever scraped your knee and watched it get better each day? Why do we get scabs? What does a band aid do? Join us to learn all about how our bodies heal in this interactive STEM session!

STEM Learning Goals: Participants will understand the basics of how the body heals from minor cuts and scrapes, as well as how to properly care for them.

February 8

I Am Strong! Have you ever wondered how you are able to run, jump, and play? In this active STEM session, our pint sized scientists will learn how our muscles and bones work together to help our bodies move!

STEM Learning Goals: Participants will gain a better understanding of bones and muscles and how they allow us to move.

February 15

I Caught a Cold! Have you ever wondered why you should cover your nose when you sneeze? In this hands-on STEM session, our pint sized scientists will explore what happens in our bodies when we’re sick and how to help prevent the spread of germs. Join us to learn, play, and keep the sniffles away!

STEM Learning Goals: Participants will gain a better understanding of how sickness spreads, how it affects our bodies, and how to keep others safe from germs!

I Am Healthy! Why do we need to brush our teeth? What’s the purpose of sunscreen? How does food give me the energy to play? In this informative STEM session, our pint sized scientists will learn all about healthy habits, self-care, and hygiene!

STEM Learning Goals: Participants will gain a better understanding of how certain habits– like brushing their teeth or wearing sunscreen– keep their bodies healthy and strong!

The science behind the PSS program:

Pint Size Science classes are designed to reflect current brain research, which shows that academic learning is directly connected to emotion. Young children need a caring adult to share their early STEM experiences, and Pint Size Science classes provide opportunities for young children and their parent or caregiver to learn together.
