  • Food, fun, science and Santa! It’s a holiday tradition at SCI, so gather the family and reserve your table for Breakfast with Santa. Here's what your family can expect:

    • Delicious buffet-style catering, including a live-action french toast station
    • A meet-and-greet with Kris Kringle himself (Don't forget to bring your wish list!)
    • A lively holiday story and a sing-along - led by Santa, of course.
    • "Science of Winter" demonstrations with our Science Learning Team
    • An onsite photographer, ready to capture a keepsake photo with Santa
    • A holiday craft station for the whole family
    • Reserved seating for your entire party
    • Admission to SCI for the rest of the day!

  • Pint Size Science (PSS) classes provide stepping stones for early learners to explore science topics and help parents/caregivers feel more confident being a STEM coach for their child.

    PSS: Preschool Edition is designed for little learners ages 3 to 5.

    This week's theme is Liquids & Gases that Go "Boom!", a part of the two-month Colorful Chemistry series.

  • Pint Size Science (PSS) classes provide stepping stones for early learners to explore science topics and help parents/caregivers feel more confident being a STEM coach for their child.

    PSS: Toddler Edition is designed for little learners ages 22 months to 3 years.

  • Meet and get the chance to touch some of SCI’s resident reptiles and amphibians.

  • Locate constellations and planets, and hear myths of the night sky in this live planetarium program. Program and location subject to change.

  • This show reveals dark matter's earliest clues, covering the astral choreography of galactic orbits as well as sensitive detectors hidden deep underground in ancient gold mines. Narrated by Tilda Swinton. Program and location subject to change.

  • Learn about humanity's journey through astronomical understanding and upcoming goals for cosmic exploration.

  • From things that glow to things that explode, this program is a real blast!

  • Tour the Seven Wonders of the World as well as some of the greatest wonders of our universe and beyond! Narrated by Sean Bean. Program and location subject to change.

  • Experience the out-of-this-world space observation! Join SCI staff and members of the Des Moines Astronomical Society (DMAS) to take a look through high-powered telescopes and get a quick lesson on the basics of telescope operation.
